Nature always has a way of surprising us—and today was no exception! While going about our usual morning routine at Longhill Reserve, we had an unexpected visit from a feathered friend: a beautiful Barn Owl.
These elegant, nocturnal birds are known for their silent flight and heart-shaped faces. With an appetite for small mammals and even the occasional snake, the Barn Owl plays an important role in maintaining balance in the local ecosystem—especially in areas like ours, just outside the renowned Addo Elephant Park.
Our little visitor had a minor flying mishap but was quickly tended to with care. Thankfully, he was unharmed and after a short rest, he was safely released back into the wild where he belongs.
Encounters like these remind us how special life on the reserve truly is. From big game to tiny, silent gliders of the night—every creature has its place at Longhill.
