Birding at Longhill
A Birder’s Escape in the Heart of the Eastern Cape
Longhill Reserve offers a peaceful and rewarding birding experience, with diverse habitats that attract an impressive variety of birdlife. Our setting just outside Addo is rich in biodiversity, making it ideal for birders and nature photographers alike. From waterbirds wading in seasonal pans to raptors circling overhead, every walk or game drive brings the possibility of a new sighting.
Keep your binoculars ready for glimpses of African Fish Eagles, Malachite and Pied Kingfishers, Secretarybirds, and the Karoo Prinia. You may also spot weavers, sunbirds, hornbills, and a variety of larks and pipits.
Birding Throughout the Reserve
Whether you’re exploring on foot or enjoying a guided drive, birdlife is ever-present. Quiet observation at dawn or dusk often rewards guests with remarkable sightings in the open grasslands and thicket edges.
Birding in the Addo Region
The greater Addo area is home to over 400 bird species, with its mix of thicket, open plains, and wetlands creating an ideal environment for both endemic and migratory birds. The Sunday’s River Valley and the Zuurberg Mountains nearby further enhance the diversity of sightings.
