At Longhill Game Lodge & Reserve, it’s not just the big game that matters—we’re just as passionate about the tiny heroes of the wild!
Say hello to the Cape Honeybee—or as they’re proudly known in local languages, Kaapse Bye (Afrikaans), Inyosi (isiXhosa), and Nyoxi (Xitsonga). These remarkable bees are native to South Africa’s southern regions and are an essential part of our conservation story.
Through our Cape Honeybee Conservation Project, we’re working hard to protect these little legends and their vital role in nature. They’re the unsung pollinators of the Eastern Cape, helping to keep our unique ecosystem thriving—one flower at a time.
Why Cape Honeybees are so special:
- They are endemic to South Africa’s fynbos and succulent Karoo biomes.
- Their role in pollinating indigenous plants is crucial for biodiversity.
- Unlike some bee species, Cape honeybees can reproduce without a queen (thanks to a fascinating genetic trait).
- They produce some of the most flavourful honey, thanks to our region’s diverse flora!
Let’s keep nature buzzing—because even the smallest wings can make the biggest impact.
